Meg, the Artist

I hop-scotch between moments of being seen in the South Asian diaspora, to being completely confused by the lack of representation of modern South Indian art that goes beyond the over-simplified, tired tropes. My driving force is the very need to make art that other people like myself can resonate with using digital tools to blend my various identities.

I find myself in a constant state of flux, navigating my ever-evolving identity as a South Indian woman in the Western creative world. My thoughts feel over-saturated and vibrating like the pieces of glass inside a kaleidoscope, evolving with the slightest amount of light.

The colours, skin tones, patterns and motifs in my work are a reflection of my life in Chennai and Hyderabad, with nods to temple arches, flowers, block print patterns on marigold fabrics, and the many folktales my Amma (mom) and Pati (grandma) raised me on.

My digital work is an ever evolving exploration of Indian-midnight-circuses.
